This Public Works Technical Bulletin (PWTB) provides information on using biodegradation, a form of bioremediation, for treatment of soil contaminated by petroleum, oil, and lubricant (POL). U.S. Army installations are increasingly asked to comply with more stringent regulations for disposal of POLcontaminated soils, grit, and sludge. Biodegradation is among the methods for treatment and disposal.
