This summary is divided into two parts. The first is an introduction to the problem of asbestos in buildings and summarizes the material that is presented in Chapter 1. The second part of the summary provides a concise outline of the remainder of the report. It lists the major steps needed to determine whether asbestos is present in a building (Chapter 2), establish a special operations and maintenance (O&M) program (Chapter 3), assess the need for further action (Chapters 4 and 5), and carry out an abatement project (Chapter 6).
