The concept of utilizing the excess heat from reciprocating engines has been around since the first automobiles, which used some of this waste heat for the passenger space temperature control. In commercial applications, the concept of “Combined Heat and Power” (CHP) has not had a strong backing until the last few years, when the cost of energy and sustainability concepts became wide spread. Recently, major manufacturers of engine driven generators have started
offering complete CHP systems.
